So this sunny bank holiday weekend was all about reuniting with a dear friend of mine from uni years in Leeds. And on her tour of Europe this beauty lady ray of sunshine did indeed bring the warm sun to London town, all the way from Indonesia.
And, what should two girls do with precious hours to catch up after nearly 5 years?
Stay in a lush hotel
The Hotel Indigo Paddington is a very stylish, welcoming and central option. Boasting 64 rooms, all with bright and vibrant furnishings and murals that portray the architecture from neighbouring Paddington station. The hotel also has a restaurant and bar – The London Street Brasserie – all in all it is the perfect hotel to come back to after a day of London town adventuring.
Find a great place to eat
The Real Greek in Covent Garden is a super treat. Staff are very warm and welcoming and the menu offers lots of delicious Greek tapas style sharing platters stacked full of choice and flavour.
The wine list is a veritable Greek odyssey of whites and reds sourced from local Greek vineyards, and if you are unsure of which tipple to choose, the staff are more than happy to advise. I went for a lovely white called Retsina and its golden glow, grape and pine aromas were the perfect accompaniment to our selected Greek delights on this warm Saturday evening.
Book a Show
Now admittedly, as we had so much to catch up on, we didn’t get round to booking a show on the first evening, but with so many amazing stage perfomances, from longest running ones like Les Miserables, to new releases like Roald Dahl’s Matilda, there is surely a deal to be had on your must see show list. So, if you had so much to catch up on with you long lost bestie and missed your otherwise dream Saturday evening show, try squeezing in a Sunday matinée, you may be pleasantly surprised. Check out sites like Timeout for details of all London shows before you leave and during your stay.
Book an amazing Sunday brunch
The Parlour at sketch is the hipster’s dream to indulge in breakfast and brunch. With amazing decor from ballet shoe tipped chairs to ecclectic luminous lighting reflected by glass tables and mirrors, it really is la crème de la cool.
And you can have your eggs cooked pretty much any which way – poached, scrambled, coddled (lightly cooked eggs) – very cleverly combined with some fine cheeses, truffles, Parisian mushrooms, langoustines, caviar…
You may even be tempted to come back for afternoon tea – you have to admit, these designer cakes look to die for!
After brunch Sunday stroll and shop
If you need to gently walk off your brunch, why not take a walk down the vibrant Carnaby Street and browse the shop shelves of some well known brands.
One of our faves was PIXI, shelving beauty products that use natural and ethically sourced ingredients in their make up and skincare products. There is something for every skin type and tone in this gorgeous make-up boutique.
Oxford Street is the obvious next stop. We love the Japanese brand Uniqlo – it’s simple and fresh, beautifully cut designs using 100% cotton, gorgeous soft pastels and vibrant colours and all at affordable prices – you are sure to find your dream outfit.
Girly reunion success
This weekend was a dreamy whirlwind of reminiscing in uni memories, beauty friendships and future life dreams. I have never been so grateful to have such a brilliant bestie from far over the seas – a friendship truly worth framing. I hope you all had the most amazing bank holiday weekend and here’s to many more sunny ones to come.
